Wood Options

Once it is determined which style of neck your kora will feature, classic or chromatic, it is time to consider the choice of wood.

We use two types of wood, Maple (genus: Acer) and Mahogany (genus: Swietenia). Both are widely used tone-woods and they make excellent necks and bars for our koras..

For more information on the woods we use, click here and if you have any further questions we will gladly discuss the pros and cons of either wood during a consultation call

Maple is the slightly heavier and harder wood, and it helps if we want a somewhat brighter and louder tone.

Mahogany necks tend to be a little bit lighter and we use it when we want a warm and mellow tone.
